Rosh Hashanah is a time of family, hope, and new beginnings. But for families caring for a seriously ill child, the chagim (holidays) can bring added emotional and financial strain at an already overwhelming time.
This Rosh Hashanah, your tzedakah can help Or Lacholeh bring practical support, comfort, and moments of light to families facing some of the most difficult days of their lives.
Help Feed a Family for Rosh Hashanah
One Or Lacholeh family shared a favorite Rosh Hashanah recipe with us — and the story of their son, Yehuda.
Yehuda’s Story
Shortly before our son Yehuda turned three, he began losing his balance and vomiting.
The doctor sent us to Terem, where they didn’t see anything unusual, but they referred us to the hospital for a more thorough examination, just to be safe.
At that point, we were still innocent and unsuspecting. We took him to the hospital calmly.
But when we arrived, he was admitted.
From there, everything happened very quickly: tests, an MRI, and straight from there he was rushed into surgery.
Even then, the mind refused to understand and the heart refused to process or believe what was happening.
And so began a long, exhausting journey of rehabilitation, tests, and endless follow-up appointments at different clinics.
Or Lacholeh Came Into the Picture
That is when Or Lacholeh came into the picture, doing everything possible to bring light to our path.
There were Tisha B’Av camps for the children, financial assistance before the holidays, and a beautiful and generous birthday gift for Yehuda.
It was a gift that brought him tremendous joy, fulfilled a wish, and gave him the strength to keep fighting.
He said:
“I only get such an expensive present because I’m in the hospital…”
There was also a special summer outing that brought the whole family together and gave us so much joy — and so much more.
What stands out in everything Or Lacholeh gives is the heart and thought they put into every act of kindness.
Ray of Light Along Our Journey
“We thank you for the light you illuminate along our journey, paving the road with love. Only Hashem can truly repay you for the tremendous work you do. We wish you continued success in bringing joy and light to people’s hearts and giving strength to those facing difficult challenges.”
This Rosh Hashanah, You Can Bring Light to Another Family
Yehuda’s family is one of many families facing the fear, exhaustion, and uncertainty that come with serious childhood illness.
And when the chagim arrive, the needs often become even greater.
For parents already balancing hospital stays, treatments, appointments, and the needs of the rest of the family, preparing for Rosh Hashanah can feel overwhelming.
Your Rosh Hashanah tzedakah can help Or Lacholeh be there for these families with urgent financial assistance, practical support, and moments of joy and relief.
Your gift can help a family meet essential needs.
It can help ease the added pressure of the chagim.
It can create a moment of happiness for a child who has spent far too much time in hospitals.
And perhaps most importantly, it can remind a family that they are not walking this road alone.
